Karl’s research focuses on measuring the growth of corals up to 100 years old and proposes that the creatures farthest from shore are more sensitive to environmental threats than their shoreside peers. The studies demonstrate researchers’ abilities to predict and potentially mitigate the effects of future environmental stressors on coral reef ecosystems.
