Brittany Miles, current junior, biology major in the Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at Johnson C. Smith University was awarded a research fellowship from the Ecological Society of America (ESA) SEEDS program. The program offers Undergraduate Research Fellowships for students underrepresented in the field of ecology. Undergraduate Research Fellowships serve the SEEDS mission by providing independent research opportunities for underrepresented students to advance their experience in ecology and their pursuit of a career in ecology. The program allows students to work on an independent research project under the mentorship of an established investigator. The fellowship also includes attendance at a leadership conference in February 2008, a stipend, funds for research supplies, travel, and housing.
Miles was mentored by SPIRE fellow Dr. Le Paliulis during the summer of 2006 working on a project investigating the role of Cin8, a motor protein, during mitosis.
