Dr. Zuleyma Tang-Martinez was a faculty member at the University of Missouri-St. Louis for 35 years, where she taught undergraduates and mentored graduate students and postdocs investigating social animal behavior. She has been recognized as an outstanding educator and is well -known for her work as an advocate for Hispanic students, women, and social justice issues.

The annual Distinguished Scholar Seminar brings an outstanding scientist-educator to UNC Chapel Hill to interact with SPIRE postdoctoral scholars, faculty, and students from SPIRE’s partner institutions. In addition students engage in lab tours, research presentations, and panel discussions.
