Microbial Genetic Diversity and Signal Transduction as Undergraduate Research/Teaching Tools

Fellows from the SPIRE Postdoctoral Fellowship Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill hosted Dr. Mark Forsyth as this year’s Distinguished Scholar. Dr. Forsyth is Associate Professor of Biology at the College of William and Mary. Dr. Forsyth earned is Ph.D. at the University of Connecticut and has since won several teaching awards. His work is currently funded by the National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease and he has mentored several undergraduate and graduate students.
Twenty six undergraduates from SPIRE’s partner MSIs attended the day’s events including a luncheon discussion with Dr. Forsyth, laboratory tours, and a panel discussion, all focused on the theme of the diversity of pathways in attaining a career in science.
